Description

This Standard has been written to help industrial organizations, businesses, and other private and public bodies develop an emergency management program (EMP). It is directed primarily toward the development of effective tools and systems to support emergency preparedness and response.

Although the primary emphasis of emergency-related planning should be on preventive rather than reactive (emergency response) measures, the very nature of human activity dictates that emergencies will occur despite preventive efforts. Through appropriate preparedness, the consequences of an emergency may be minimized.
