Description

Preface This is the first edition of CSA TS-4.3.5, Test methods for high-flow hydrogen fuelling parameter evaluation . This Technical Specification (referred to as “this Document” from here on) specifies the minimum testing requirements for verifying the fuelling protocols specified in SAE J2601/5 and the communications protocols in SAE J2799. This Document applies to dispensing systems, referred to as “dispensers”, designed to fill vehicle storage systems in accordance with SAE J2601/5. This Document is not a consensus product; that is, it is not a standard and it has not been formally reviewed or approved by a CSA Technical Committee. CSA Group acknowledges that the development of this Document was made possible, in part, by the financial support of Transport Canada. This Document was prepared by the Subcommittee on Test Methods for Hydrogen Fuelling Parameter Evaluation. Scope 1.1 Inclusions This Document specifies the minimum testing requirements for verifying a) the fuelling protocols specified in SAE J2601/5; and b) the communications protocols in SAE J2799. This Document applies to dispensers designed to fill vehicle storage systems in accordance with SAE J2601/5. Notes: 1) The SAE J2601/5 fuelling protocols target rapid fills while respecting temperature, pressure, and fuel density safety limits. 2) This Document is a minimum requirement. Manufacturers may take additional safety precautions. 1.2 Application This Document was developed for, and is intended to be used with, the specific editions of SAE J2601/5 and SAE J2799 referenced in Clause 2. 1.3 Dispensers with communications capability For dispensers with the capability for communications with the vehicle, these test methods include the approach to confirm the requirements specified in SAE J2799 and SAE J2601/5. 1.4 Testing and validation Newly manufactured dispensers should be tested in accordance with this Document prior to initial operation of the dispenser for fuelling vehicles. This Document is also intended to provide test methods for validation of existing dispensers. 1.5 SAE J2601/5-compliant hydrogen fuelling stations Unless otherwise specified, the requirements in this Document apply to the verification of SAE J2601/5-compliant hydrogen fuelling stations (HFSs). 1.6 Conflicts with other requirements In the case of conflict between this Document and federal, provincial/territorial, state, or local requirements, the governmental requirements take precedence. 1.7 Terminology In this Document, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Document; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may ” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Document.
