General requirements and methods of testing for nonmetallic conduit
Description
Preface This is the third edition of CSA C22.2 No. 211.0, General requirements and methods of testing for nonmetallic conduit . It supersedes the previous editions published in 2003 and 1984. This Standard contains test methods and requirements that are referenced, as applicable, by other C22.2 No. 211 series standards. The following are the major changes to this edition: a) deleting references to C22.2 No. 211.3; b) adding a reference to CSA C22.2 No. 0 in Clause 4.1; c) updating the marking requirements in Clause 5; d) updating Clause 6.2.4to provide the value for roughness grade; e) updating to clarify the intent is to use a commercially available two-by-four wood piece for the impact resistance test (Method B) in Clause 6.3.2.1b); f) deleting the requirements for the beam strength test, the boiling water test, and the flattening resistance test because these tests have been moved to C22.2 No. 2515 and C22.2 No. 2420; g) updating the requirements of the vertical flame test (FT4) in Clause 6.13to align with the requirements in C22.2 No. 2556; h) updating the requirements when multiple shorter lengths are needed to make up the required 7.3 m length of conduit or tubing specimens in Clauses 6.14.2.1and 6.14.2.2; i) updating Clause 6.3.2.2.2to increase the specified conduit length; and j) updating Clauses 6.5.3.3and 6.8.3.2to clarify the running speed. This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard. This Standard was prepared by the Subcommittee on Nonmetallic Conduit, Tubing, and Fittings, under the jurisdiction of the Technical Committee on Wiring Products and the Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements for Electrical Safety, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope 1.1 This Standard describes general requirements, apparatus, and test methods to be used in carrying out applicable tests and calculations for rigid nonmetallic conduits, elbows, bends, and associated fittings required by the rigid nonmetallic conduit standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. 1.2 The various types of rigid nonmetallic conduits are as follows: a) rigid PVC conduit for direct burial and for masonry and concrete encasement, as specified in CSA C22.2 No. 211.1; and b) rigid PVC (unplasticized) conduit, as specified in CSA C22.2 No. 211.2. 1.3 In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application.
