General requirements for fault-managed power systems
Description
Preface This is the first edition of CSA C22.2 No 0.24, General requirements for fault-managed power systems . Fault-managed power systems are end-to-end power delivery systems transmitting power over cables to receivers rated to a maximum of 450 V peak. This Standard applies to systems, products, and component devices of fault-managed power. This Standard is considered suitable for use for conformity assessment within the stated scope of the Standard. This Standard was prepared by the Subcommittee on General Requirements on Fault-Managed Power Systems, under the jurisdiction of the Technical Committee on General Requirements and the Strategic Steering Committee on Requirements for Electrical Safety, and has been formally approved by the Technical Committee. This Standard has been developed in compliance with Standards Council of Canada requirements for National Standards of Canada. It has been published as a National Standard of Canada by CSA Group. Scope 1.1 Inclusions This Standard applies to Class 4 Fault-Managed Power Systems (FMPS) that are considered Class 4 power systems installed in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. Notes: 1) These systems monitor circuits for faults in real time and limit the available power to a fault. 2) Fault-managed power systems are end-to-end power delivery systems that transmit power over Class 4 cables to receivers rated to a maximum of 450 V peak. 1.2 Application This Standard supplements individual standards of the Canadian Electrical Code, Part II. The investigation specified in this Standard is only for the fault management part of FMPS products and components. 1.3 Other test requirements Individual product standards may specify, as necessary, other double-insulated construction and test requirements because of the particular nature and application of their product. 1.4 Exclusions This Standard does not apply to cables for FMPSs. These types of cables are evaluated using CSA C22.2 No. 356. 1.5 Terminology In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard. Notes accompanying clauses do not include requirements or alternative requirements; the purpose of a note accompanying a clause is to separate from the text explanatory or informative material. Notes to tables and figures are considered part of the table or figure and may be written as requirements. Annexes are designated normative (mandatory) or informative (non-mandatory) to define their application. 1.6 Units of measurement The values given in SI units are the units of record for the purposes of this Standard. The values given in parentheses are for information and comparison only.
